Spellcasting/Occult: Difference between revisions

Occult spellcasters seek knowledge in the unknown and unexplained. They are seekers of the deep hidden secrets of the world, those that can't be explained by simple science or knowledge of the arcane or otherwise. Occult magic is the pacts made to otherwordly beings, the magic that comes from unexplained concoctions or the magic found in ancient knowledge and secrets not yet understood by methods and patterns.

Occult Spellcasting Ability

Occult spellcasters use either Intelligence or Charisma as their spellcasting ability modifier, dependent on their source of power. You use your Intelligence or Charisma whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability. You are always proficienct with your own spellcasting, and the proficiency bonus is level-based, as described in the Proficiency introduction.

Occult Spellcasting Ability = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence or Charisma modifier

Learning & Preparation

An occult spellcaster learns spells through spellcasting feats, class features or other feats. These spells are always prepared but also always requires spell components.

Occult Foci

In rare occasions some occult spellcasters use foci. These are uncommon, often expensive and rare artifacts that count as an unconsumable source of power. In comparison to component use foci acts as a combination of certain components allowing it to cast certain spells, determined by the focus itself.

Eldritch Power

Occult spellcasters unlike other types of casters have a low arsenal of spells ready to cast during a quick encounter, but regenerate that power faster than their counterparts.

An occult spellcaster always cast their spells at the same level as themselves, but are restricted to a number of Available Spell Casts. Available Spell Casts are reset after each short or long rest.

Available Spell Casts = your Level halved, rounded up.

Occult spellcasters therefore do not use Spell Points. An exception to this rule are Cantrips, which can also be cast at the lowest level without consuming an Available Spell Cast.
